Mission Statement
A private, co-educational, nonsectarian academic institution, South College-Asheville offers varied and well-balanced programs at the bachelor's, associate and certificate levels.
The mission of the college is to identify and facilitate quality programs of study that bring students together in an academic setting which encourages the development of educated, responsible professionals who meet the demands of our employment market.
To achieve this mission, South College-Asheville offers general education and specialized courses designed to broaden students' overall knowledge and develop strong technical skills as identified by community leaders. The college recognizes the uniqueness of students and works to meet their needs on an individual basis. Therefore, the college maintains various support services to enhance students' academic experiences.

Degrees and Certifications
Accounting (Associate Degree)
South College - Asheville's Accounting Degree is designed to provide students with the appropriate knowledge and skills associated with the field of accounting. The goal of the accounting program is to prepare students to seek employment in areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bookkeeping, and accounting office management positions. These positions may be found in such diverse sectors as business, health, government, manufacturing, and social services.
Business Administration (Associate Degree)
The South College Business Administration program prepares students to enter the continually evolving world of business, government, and industry. Building on a foundation of general education in areas such as oral and written communication, mathematical reasoning, and social science, the business foundation and upper division courses expose students to the realms of accounting, management, finance, economics, and marketing.
Criminal Justice (Associate Degree)
Students in South Colleges Criminal Justice Degree program can obtain the knowledge, skills, and awareness needed to gain entry to or advance their current position in the criminal justice field. Students will study the issues and trends within law enforcement, courts, and corrections. Theory is put into practice through communication with criminal justice professionals, field trips, and an internship. This can lead graduates to begin successful careers in the criminal justice field.
Legal Studies (Bachelor Degree)
Legal Studies at South College - Asheville is an ABA approved program that combines the theory and practice of legal concepts. Students within this program can acquire analytical and problem-solving skills within a legal context. Students can also develop the ability to conduct legal research and writing. This can help prepare graduates to become valuable team members within a legal office. This could be within law firms, banks, government agencies, and more.
Medical Assisting (Associate Degree)
Graduates of the South College - Asheville Medical Assisting program will be prepared to assist physicians in examining and treating patients, performing laboratory testing, and managing the administrative and clinical responsibilities associated with efficient physician office operations. Medical Assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures.
Nursing (Associate Degree)
The purpose of the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree Program is to prepare graduate nurses, through classroom and clinical education, with the necessary skills to function at the entry level of practice for registered nursing.
Paralegal Studies (Associate Degree)
The Paralegal Studies program is an ABA approved legal assistant education program with the purpose of providing each paralegal student at South College - Asheville with a quality, practical legal education in order to provide attorneys and the legal community with paralegals who are qualified, responsible, and professional.
Physical Therapist Assistant (Associate Degree)
The Physical Therapist Assistant Degree program at South College - Asheville can provide students with the knowledge and professional skills needed to become a Physical Therapy Assistant. Students will learn methods and techniques through class work, field trips, and an internship. They will learn to assist the Physical Therapist and work under his or her supervision to help manage patient injuries and relieve pain. Depending on the desired State of practice, graduates may be required to pass a license exam before beginning their career.
Radiologic Technology (Associate Degree)
Students in the Radiologic Technology program at South College - Asheville will learn how to take x-rays and work with diagnostic imaging equipment. They will also be encouraged to develop effective communication skills in order to interact with patients. The focus on clinical instruction can lead graduates to become successful Radiologic Technicians or Radiographers. They will be able to conduct proper x-rays in order to diagnose medical problems.
Surgical Technology (Certificate Program)
Students in the Surgical Technology program at South College - Asheville will be exposed to a combination of class work and clinical practice. They will learn how to help prepare a surgical team and assist in the care of patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. Graduates of the program can begin their careers as valuable members of a surgical team.
