The National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts is a non-profit, accredited, post-secondary school for individuals who wish to train for professional careers in the performing arts.

The Conservatory was founded in 1975 to provide residents of the greater Washington metro area the opportunity to accomplish a caliber of training previously only available in New York or Los Angeles. The mission of the Conservatory is to provide training that incorporates sound technique and a practical approach in a supportive and professional atmosphere based on collegiality between faculty and students and mutual respect for the time honored craft of acting.

The Conservatory provides students with the vehicle, the ensemble, the space, the instruction of dedicated professionals and the audience so that they may discover and learn in an atmosphere that reflects a professional working environment. In this unique training environment students are free to take chances and test themselves.

The Conservatory has been successfully training actors since 1975 for careers in theatre, television and film. As Washington, DC's accredited, professional actor training studio, our programs provide individual attention, small class settings and a faculty composed of leading artists from Washington, DC, & New York.

Conservatory graduates enjoy continuous business and consulting support including audition preparation, contracts, business planning, market relocation, unions, and much more. Students leave the school not only with a strong foundation in the craft, the business saavy to be successful in today's ultra-competitive market, but also a network of professionals who are always here to help them succeed!

The actors who graduate from The Conservatory leave the school with all of the skills, tools, knowledge and confidence they need to jump start their careers. The Conservatory is fully Accredited by the ACCSCT, and the curriculum has been scrutinized and approved by multiple Industry veterans.

The atmosphere here is intense, supportive, demanding, caring and challenging. Graduates tell us that the time they spent here at the Conservatory is the most important and enriching time of their lives.

Mission Statement

The National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts is a non-profit, accredited, post-secondary school for individuals who wish to train for professional careers in the performing arts. The Conservatory was founded in 1975 to provide residents of the greater Washington metro area the opportunity to accomplish a caliber of training previously only available in New York or Los Angeles. The mission of the Conservatory is to provide training that incorporates sound technique and a practical approach in a supportive and professional atmosphere based on collegiality between faculty and students and mutual respect for the time honored craft of acting. The Conservatory is dedicated to making the cost of the training fair and affordable for students. The school participates in Federal Title IV financial aid programs to assist those students for whom tuition assistance is needed in order for them to be able to train. The Conservatory does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, or sexual orientation regarding admission, hiring of personnel or in its educational programs.
